Haiku

Lai Lai Ho

Lone drop of water
zigzags down the windowpane
gathers friends and gone.

mado no ame hitori jiguzagu tomo wo yobu

(Kimberly)

(Rodriguez)

(Tan)

(Nakaatari)

(Simon)

Kimberly Ann Loram

The thief quietly turned
cherry blossoms
into snow

(nusubito no soyo to shinobu ya hana fubuki)

(Simon)

(Kimura)

.(Rodriguez)

(Nakaatari)

Scott Nakaatari

                Nightfall in the heart
                Eyes clouded by the mist,

                When is the sunrise?

(itu akuru kiri fukaki yo ya waga manako)

(Tan)

(Ho)

Mimi Yvette Tan

                        Alone
                   To the bird's song -
                   Listening...

(tada hitori tori no saezuri mimi ni iru)

Comments,

The bird song is very beautiful, it can be listened to and appreciated while in a quiet moment of reflection. Is the mood happy or sad? I suppose it depends on the thought of the moment. (Nakaatari)

So simple, and yet I can imagine the author clearly, sitting outside her window and listening to the song of the bird. I feel her contentness and feel the stillness of the situation. It is something we can all imagine ourselves having done once. (Ho)

This Haiku tells about someone who tries to find out about something new. This person, alone, is listening to the bird's song. For me, the bird's song symbolizes something beautiful to be heard but doesn't have any meaning. But, if we try to listen carefully, maybe we could find something useful. Just like if you pay more attention to everything surrounding you, you can get lots of valuable information about life. (Prabowo)

To me, this haiku represents the power of nature. I imagine the serenity of a single person who may be trying to sort out some things in his/her mind, yet is unable to due to the song of the bird (the sound goes in the ear, maybe even involuntarily). The power of nature, the inability to ignore it- I like this concept. (Kimberly)

Sound of the water
breaks through the noiseless night
raising red sun’s shine.

(Pabro Israel Arancibia

(shizukesa ya mizuoto hiraku hi no akasa)

Comments:

I can hear the sound of the water crashing against the surf. This sound signifies the awakening of the morning. Why is the sound contrasted with the raising of the sun? I think silence and the noise are compared here, the sounds of nature and its cycles are shown. (Ho)

The mirror in front,
They see what needs to be seen,
shatters to pieces

Scott Nakaatari

Comments:

I chose this Haiku because for me, the mirror symbolizes the truth. It shows everything, whether it's good or bad, whether we like it or not.(Prabowo)

I've chose this Haiku because it contains a very interesting topic for me: the mirror. I like the idea of "They see what needs to be seen." I think this idea shows how arbitrary can a man's opinion be toward his surroundings.(Pablo)

The reason that I like this Haiku is that it seeps deep within the recess of your soul and makes you empathize with the poet, as well as the dilemma that he was going through at the time he wrote this Haiku. (Tan)

We should do something to make us see clearly what happened in front of us. If not, we'll never see the real situation now and forever.(Chua)
